Starting from Chefchaouni Avenue, Tunisia Mosque. « Fes New City » at 10 am, direction to the mountains of the middle atlas through southern Morocco, a wild region of rare beauty. the great cedar forests that cover the mountain sides between deep valleys bordered by the fertile plains of sais and the cities of Fez and Meknes.

The mountainous heights of the middle atlas are the territory of berber tribes. this mountain chain, northeast of the atlas, spans 350 km (217 miles) in length. and it is delimited on its eastern side by tazzika national park, which features caves and gorges.

South of sefrou, the forests of cedar, holm-oak, and cork-oak form a patchwork with the bare volcanic plateaus and small lakes brimming with fish. above the deep valleys rise Jbel Bou Nacer and Jbel Bou Iblane, reaching heights of 3,340m and 3,100m respectively. these are the highest peaks of the middle atlas. from december, peaks over 2,000 mm are covered with snow.

The middle atlas is the territory of the semi-nomadic Bni M’Guild and Bni Zaiane. the forest roads, darkened by towering stands of cedar, are patrolled by peaceful macaques. in this excursion, you can take a break for lunch in Ifrane, the « Switzerland of Morocco, » or in Azrou city, which features stone-built « chalets » with red-tiled roofs. at the end of the journey, you will return back to Fez.
